Chihiros Universal WRGB 550 doesn't fit an Oase Highline 125 ?

Hi peeps,

I've got a problem with my Chihiros Universal WRGB 550 fitment. Reading from the specifications it would fit in a Oase Highline 125 (no optiwhite, but that shouldn't matter with sizes).
But when I try to fit it in the original place of the Oase Led unit on the strips of glass, it wouldn't fit. Because of the aluminium strips where the cover plate of the aquarium is resting on. Even at the height it doesn't fit under the cover. The cover is standing a bit open at the front of the aquarium and resting on the back of the light unit. On photo 4 you will see that the light unit is higher than the aluminium strips where the cover is resting on. The light unit is resting on the glass strip on that side.
The aquariumshop where I bought it said just cut the aluminium strip from the aquarium it doesn't infect the stability. But why would I cut in my aquarium if there is said by the Chihiros unit specifications that it fits also a Oase Highline 125. But not on my Oase Highline 125.

How should I get this right?
Because maybe I would sell the aquarium some day without the Chihiros light back to original so then the aluminium strip should be back on there.. Only thing is that strip is sitting very tight on that glass.

Thanks for helping,
Xelitas:)

Haha, sorry, this isn’t easy to explain. The photo I posted isn’t of my setup, it’s just one I found on an online store. In the photo below (my own), you can see that I had to rest the light directly on the glass supports because it’s almost the full length of my tank.

In your case, if the light is indeed 62 cm long, I think you should be able to use the metal supports that come with the light, and in that case the light will sit a bit lower and might fit. But it’s really going to be a matter of a few millimeters. To use the metal supports, you need to make sure you have at least 62 cm between the two glass supports on your aquarium. How much space do you have?

Ah I’m with you now I understand. Damn it looks like yours over hangs a fair amount too 🥲shame the light is so chunky.
okay so yeah I have 8cm, 4cm either side of the light it’s certainly going to be tight. Annoyingly I’m not with the tank right now, I’ll have to check tomorrow but by sounds of it this is going to be close I think 😂
What do you run on your 85 now? I know twinstar do a light that fits?

I’m still using the Chihiros! I don’t mind too much not using both parts of the lid. This summer in Paris was so hot that I needed to keep it open all the time to help with evaporation. And I don’t have a curious cat that would be tempted to stick its nose in the tank :D Sure, it’s probably not the most aesthetic to have only half the lid, but the light is really great and I wanted to keep it!

For your measurements, yeah, it’s going to be a tight fit. I think you can check two things:
  • Make sure you really have 62 cm between the two glass supports (or a bit more to account for the power cable coming out on the side).

  • Make sure you have about 1 cm between the lower rail and the top of the glass support. I measured the height of the light from the base of the metal arm, and I’d say it’s between 9 and 10 mm (see picture below). So you’ll need that space between the lid sitting on the rail and the glass support.

Keep me posted, I hope it works out for you!
